Cosmetically, the Tiguan R looks incredibly similar to the Tiguan R-Line, with the only major giveaways being a new quad-exit exhaust system, a slightly larger rear spoiler and some fresh ‘R’ badges. The conventional exhaust can also be swapped for an optional Akrapovic titanium system, which Volkswagen says is both lighter and noisier.
Changes to the Tiguan R’s cabin compared with regular designs are a little a lot more noticeable, as the automobile features the same blue-on-black upholstery as the Golf R. There’s also a sports steering wheel, which features prolonged paddle shifters and a new R’ button, which allows motorists to swiftly switch between the SUV’s drive modes.
Standard equipment includes Matrix LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 30-colour ambient illumination system and Volkswagen’s semi-autonomous travel assist driving mode. buyers also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system, both of which feature Tiguan R-specific graphics.
